Many people with eye diseases suffer from vision problems that cannot be corrected with conventional glasses or medical treatment.
Diseases of old age such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts that cannot be corrected for various reasons, and more, cause vision loss. On the other hand, genetic or congenital diseases of young age such as CONE DYSTROPHY, nystagmus, (RP) – retinitis pigmentosa or ROP – RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY.
Far vision is a part of our lives and many activities are based on this ability. When this ability is impaired, it makes everyday life difficult. Whether it is seeing people's faces from a distance, driving, watching television, movies and plays, and navigating space in general, thus reducing the quality of life.
To this end, various types of telescopic glasses and others have been created that provide relief from this condition. Each solution is unique and able to meet a specific need of a patient.
I will give you a few examples:
Watching television is one of the leisure activities. Many visually impaired people complain of blurring and fogging and are forced to sit very close to the television due to their condition. This creates discomfort, difficulty and frustration.
Monocular or binocular (depending on the condition of the eyes) can magnify anything for viewing 1.7X, 2.2X, and even more as needed. The glasses are accurate and include the patient's conventional prescription for maximum accuracy and sharpness. This means that the seat can be further away from the TV and the visual acuity is much better.
And in some types of telescopes, you can even add an element for close reading (book/newspaper).
These glasses are used stationary, while sitting, because their field of vision is relatively limited and does not allow for activities such as walking. They are used for watching television and other stationary activities.
Other telescopes are glasses with a telescopic clip on top of the glasses. Here too, the advantage is maximum accuracy and maximum sharpness when using the conventional prescription and magnification together.
Its field of view is narrower than a WA telescope, but it has the advantage of being able to be used outdoors and in more active situations because you can raise and lower the clip with the telescope as needed.
Raise the clip phone when it is not needed and lower it when you want to see the name of a street, the face of an approaching person, or watch TV with a reading device.
Additional glasses that are on the verge of telescopes and their impact on the quality of life is often very great. And these are GRAND MAX glasses.
Glasses consisting of two uniquely polished lenses that provide a magnification of 18-20%.
In addition, the patient's prescription is also added in order to maximize the patient's vision.
Their field of vision is wide and allows for driving. Adjusting to driving with this magnification is easy and unproblematic.
The experience I have gained in the last two years since these glasses were created has brought wonderful results to many people and their quality of life has improved.
These glasses can also be manufactured with a special filter to increase contrast for those with various retinal diseases, further increasing visual ability.
People with retinal degeneration often have difficulty fitting glasses that will provide significant improvement in vision, because they need more than standard optical correction.
Special glasses developed specifically for these people combine several elements proven to be very effective for patients with low to moderate levels of low vision. Glasses that do not restrict movement and are aesthetically pleasing. They are used mainly for general vision - to increase confidence when walking on the street, recognizing facial features and identifying objects.
They include: Unique filter To increase contrast– which significantly reduces the blue component of light giving good contrast. This filter is a CUT OFF FILTER (a filter that absorbs radiation)
This unique filter, C1, blocks short wavelengths but avoids blocking them completely to allow vision of all wavelengths in the field of vision, and to allow use even in enclosed spaces and during night driving.
Enlargement – Choice between two sizes – 3%, 6%. The magnification allows the use of areas of the retina that are not damaged and, on the other hand, does not reduce the field of view.
Magnification is made possible by using a lens with a low refractive index and changing the curvature of the lens through special polishing.
These two elements combine For anti-reflective coating It is important to note that the glasses include the The patient's exact prescription (Unifocal, bifocal, multifocal).
This combination gives the best, maximum vision that can be given to the patient with non-telescopic glasses.
A hand-held telescope is a telescope that is held in the hand or on a chain and can be lifted up and viewed as needed at a landscape, a traffic light, or anything distant. It is usually a powerful telescope and does not contain the patient's prescription.
Comes in X4 and X6 magnifications and is usually intended for specific and momentary operations. Viewing the scenery on a trip, identifying bus numbers, and more.
Of course, there are many other types of telescopes, and the construction of each telescope is according to the unique need and request of the patient.
In order to achieve an accurate fit for each patient's needs, a unique eye exam must be performed by an optometrist for low vision.
